Garden Bloggers Bloom Day

I’ve been meaning to get in on Garden Blogger’s Bloom Day at May Dreams Garden for several months, but my ingrained practice of putting things off means I’ve not remembered to actually take any pictures until today. And, of course, with the drought and the recent heat, there isn’t that much blooming. And my flowers have been somewhat neglected by a recent project I’ve had, building a fence/gate to hide the stuff I keep beside my shop:

(yes, I know it’s sagging in the middle, I’ve got to set the braces).

But, I do have a few things blooming. The Profusion zinnias are, as (almost) always, dependably doing their late-summer thing:

And the celosia, which has been happily reseeding for years, is once again holding forth:

Although this year, for the first time, one of the seedlings grew up to have mostly white blooms:

The evolvulus ‘Blue Daze’ is one of my favorites. I use it every year:

And I have a few sunflowers in the vegetable garden:

I haven’t planted sunflowers in years, but decided to this year just because I like them. If the birds take all the seeds, that’s fine with me. Speaking of the vegetable garden, I’ve been getting tons of tomatoes until the past week or so, when the heat finally persuaded the tomato flowers to start dropping. But they’ll be back as soon as it cools down. The yellow squash and zucchini all died last month, whether from powdery mildew from the early rains or something else, I don’t know (and honestly I don’t like squash enough to have bothered investigating!).

Anyway, I’ve finally gotten around to participating in Bloom Day. Maybe this will get me blogging more regularly again.

Nice colorful blooms – welcome to the bloomday tradition! I loved your How to Grow Kudzu page too – very witty! We need a similar page here for Vinca and for French broom – well they\’re not quite so bad as your Kudzu. But bad enuf!

I also like to grow profusion zinnias. And that’s a very nice sunflower there. Enjoyed your essay on growing kudzu. I’m a little familiar with that plant because my son used to live in Memphis and I visited him a few times – also journeying into northern Mississippi. Happy GBBD!
