During a brief sunny break from our recent rainy weather, I found this blue butterfly (now identified as a male Pipeline Swallowtail) working the buddlieia along my front fence….

No, I don’t know what kind it is, but I’m trying to find out. And in keeping with blues (sorta), I saw this rose peeking out through the asters along the fence…

Rose in asters

I don’t recall the particular rose variety, I have several old cemetery roses and this may be one of those.

I took advantage of the nice, cool, not-humid morning to walk around my back yard a bit. The sky was that brilliant blue that says summer is, mostly, behind us. The goldenrod is blooming, and looked, I thought, pretty striking against the sky:

If you look closely, there’s a ladybug meandering around the flowers.

Then I found this guy, out looking for breakfast. Or maybe just a sunny spot to relax:

Praying Mantis

Maybe he won’t find the ladybug. I like ladybugs.
